  • If appropriate, techniques such as FEA structural and kinematic analysis should be used early in the design process to quickly optimise concepts.
  • Materials and manufacturing process must be selected based on cosmetic, technical and commercial criteria.
  • 3D CAD models should be generated and should incorporate design for manufacture (DFM) features.
  • Clearance and tolerance studies may be required to ensure designs are right-first-time.
  • Good quality 2D drawings which accurately capture and communicate manufacturing, inspection and design intent are often essential.
